Can somebody PLEASE explain to me why the "childfree" communities spend so goddamn much time yammering obsessively on about pregnancy and children and parenting?

Bueller? Bueller?

My personal take: they feel threatened by a society that they feel puts pressure on people (especially women) to have children and espouses the view that it is a woman's purpose to have and raise children.

Oh, I agree. But why go on and on and on, telling exaggerated anecdotes and skewed news stories about a lifestyle you never intend to have? Why ever discuss pregnancy, or proper child-rearing? Why not deal with the needs/support of the childfree, and save the rancour for the societal pressure to bear children?

It reminds me of certain heterosexuals who fap endlessly (and rather ignorantly) over how same-sex marriage will destroy heterosexual marriage, all the while ignoring the actual fact that money/economic worries tend to be the problems that mess up most marriages.

Well, sometimes it's easier to sit around snarking on other people than to deal with your own problems. I see this in certain parenting communities as well.

Oh, indeed. This is why I avoid certain parenting communities like the plague. *laugh*

I can fully understand the childfree movement. If I never wanted to have kids, I'd fully 100% hate the fact that society views me as just an incubator.

But I don't get why they sit and have so much hatred towards other people and their kids.

People would take them a lot more seriously if they focused on their own issue, instead of spending all their time snarking.

See, I can also agree that being pressured about not having children is crap. Childfreedom is a completely legitimate choice, and people should be respectful of it.

But damn, I read more about pregnancy and child-rearing on those communities than I do from PARENTING ones--most of the "information" insanely ignorant. Venting is cool, but a bunch of them could at least get their basic anatomical/developmental facts straight.

It is too, too bizarre.
